There are many different styles of wedding photography and as you shop for wedding photographers in Michigan we know how confusing it can be. Understanding how your photographer creates their art is very important. Some style labels you may be familiar with are wedding photojournalism, traditional, vintage, modern, high fashion, and even fine art wedding photography. While we appreciate that some wedding photographers like to attach a specific style to their work, in our studio we don't like to tie ourselves down with a label. When we think of wedding photography styles, we believe our work speaks for itself by encompassing aspects of many different styles into each crisp, clean, sharp and well composed image.
If you are like most of the couples we've worked with, you probably don't want to be posed and directed throughout your entire wedding day. You most likely don't want to feel or look stiff or uncomfortable either. Most couples and their families want a wedding photographer who can blend in comfortably to capture moments as they happen, yet step up take charge when they need to, like during family formal portraits or corralling the wedding party. Our couples tend to request a combination of wedding day portrait styles including some where they are smiling at the camera, but others where they are relaxed and having fun, and even a few fine art images. This is easy for us, because that is exactly how we work, exactly how we flow, and exactly how we capture your day.
We are small team of wedding photographers based near Detroit who have spent many years perfecting our craft and achieving a high skill level. We are seasoned, experienced professionals, and it's through this experience that we know how to accomplish many different types of photographic styles which only benefits our couples. We focus on truthful storytelling using our photographic skill and journalistic experience to capture and record moments in real time as they happen, with all the raw and unplanned emotions that happen on wedding days. We study light carefully in order to create art through your wedding day portraits. On the wedding day we are in constant pursuit of authentic, honest, emotional connections between the people we see in our lens. You can see and feel this in our work.
When you work with us you learn that we use our ears before we ever pick up our camera. We want to hear what is important to you and why. We want to learn as much as we can about you so that we can focus on these things and people on your wedding day. Then once we pick up our cameras we are able to blend several different wedding photography styles together because on the wedding day that's what we have to do. On your wedding day we are photojournalists, we are traditional family photographers, we create fine art wedding photographs, we will wow you with our low light skills, and finally we are dance floor photographer ninjas capturing all the hidden fun.
How we edit our pictures.
As important as how we create your photos is how we edit them. You've learned above how we strive to achieve a natural and authentic approach to wedding day photography. With that in mind it's important to understand that we also use this approach with our editing. Because we are experts working with light (both artificial and natural) and shadows, how we shoot is very deliberate and focused. What this means is that we really don't need to do anything unnatural in our editing process. We never overlay images with funky filters or abstract colors. We keep our images as close to their natural state as possible, except for correcting things like sharpness, clarity, color consistency and fixing an exposure problem here and there. Higher level hand retouching for things like body modifications, removing or adding people, changing entire backgrounds, etc., is available for an additional fee. We are always happy to share full wedding galleries of recent work and encourage you to ask this of any photographer you are considering.
