What to Wear for your Engagement Photos
Making the most of your Engagement Session
Figuring out what to wear for your engagement photos doesn't have to be stressful or complicated. Let us help you get back to the FUN part of being engaged by providing some helpful tips on how to get the most out of your engagement photography experience. Whether you are already part of our client family, or if you just happened to be looking for advice, these tips are tried and true and will lead you in the right direction to have an exciting engagement session.
Your engagement photography session should not only showcase your love and connection with each other but also the FUN that you have together. When you work with our studio the first thing you learn is that our mantra is "people over things". We love your laughter, your joy, your spark, and the cute way you drop your head when your partner says something that embarrasses you. We are looking at your interaction and the reactions and connection you have to each other. The energy flowing between you matters more than anything else.
Consider your personality before you go shopping. Be true and authentic to who you are as individuals and also to who you are as a couple while considering what to wear for your engagement session. If you are a truly adventurous and active couple who likes to spend your weekends hiking, cycling or hanging out at the park, then wearing a swanky gown and/or suit and tie may not truly fit your personalities. When your friends and families see your engagement photographs they should see a genuine representation of who you - and who you are on the outside should match who you are on the inside.
Be mindful of the location. If your photographer is taking your engagement pictures at a park, with fields and meadows and tall grass to walk through then you may want to save the manolo's for the wedding day.
Are you a laid back couple? That's awesome! Keep your outfits casual, but not TOO casual. Avoid gym shorts and t-shirts, but rather opt for a comfortable flowing dress or casual polo and jeans.
Your personality matters
Layer clothing and accessorize to the max. It's really easy to switch out a scarf, jacket or jewelry to get an entirely different look in a few photos without the need to do a complete outfit change. Avoid super loud patterns or opposite patterns. It's okay if one partner wears a pattern, but the other person should not.
Don't match too much. It's okay if you both wear blue, but don't wear the same shade of blue.
Don't be afraid to incorporate something fun and meaningful to you as a couple. Love wine? Bring a bottle of your favorite wine and a couple of glasses. Love beer? Let's schedule your session near a brewery and let's incorporate that into your photos. Love football? Bring a ball to toss around. Remember, this session is about YOU and who YOU are.
Love your pooch? Why not bring the dog along? Make sure you talk to us first as we do require you bring a handler so we can work with the dog and then we still have time to work without the dog, yet keep the dog safe and secure.
